Pat is best known as one of the longest serving and most influential executives in San Francisco Giants history during his over 30 year career with the franchise. As the team’s first Director of Marketing, his memorable marketing campaigns to sell cold and windy Candlestick Park with humor in the 1980’s and contributions as Senior Vice President of Business Operations in the 1990’s and beyond to re-invigorate the franchise.
Was a key contributor to the creation of the privately funded Pacific Bell (now AT&T) Park, regarded by many as one the best ballparks in the country, Gallagher has been credited as a creative force behind the Giants evolution from a struggling franchise to a billion-dollar, championship organization.
Gallagher was instrumental in the making of Super Bowl 50, first as a volunteer contributor in crafting the winning bid to bring the event to the San Francisco Bay Area and then as Executive Vice President of Marketing, Partnerships and Communications for the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee which assembled an organization to deliver the milestone event held in February 2016, with distinction. He co-authored Big Game. Bigger Impact (Motivational Press 2017), which chronicles the lessons learned from the purpose driven effort which has been regarded by stakeholders and league officials as one of the most successful Super Bowls to date.
Upon completion of the new ballpark in 2000, Gallagher was named President of Giants Enterprises LLC a newly created subsidiary of the Giants to develop non-baseball business which featured concerts with The Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band, Bruce Springsteen and other headliners as well as college and professional football, soccer, Cirque du Soleil, Supercross, Ski and Snowboard Jumping, Opera in the Park and a thriving special events capability which is now regarded as a model for modern major sports organizations.
Gallagher served as chairman of San Francisco Travel, the city’s visitor and convention marketing arm during the formative period when the new funding mechanism, the Tourism Improvement District was created that more than quadrupled funds available annually to market the city and renovate its aging convention center. Tourism is San Francisco’s biggest industry and employer.
Gallagher is the co-author of “Big Game Bigger Impact” with Stephanie Martin about the hosting of Super Bowl 50.
Gallagher is a frequent speaker and guest instructor at colleges and universities across the country. He currently is a management consultant, mentor, author, speaker, and authority in the sports, entertainment, and the special events industry.
